Preparing for New Student Orientation
Welcome to the Cullen College! Attending New Student Orientation (NSO) is the final step to officially becoming a UH Cougar — and we’re excited to welcome you.
To help you get the most out of your orientation experience, please review the checklist below and complete the necessary steps ahead of time:
- Reserve your seat at New Student Orientation
- Use this step-by-step guide to register for orientation.
- Complete the Pre-Orientation modules, which are available through the AccessUH portal.
- Register for and complete the Math Placement Exam
- All engineering students are required to complete the Math Placement Exam before attending orientation. You find instructions for how to register for the Math Placement Exam here.
- Take the exam for MATH 2413 — Calculus I, even if you expect AP credit.
- AP scores are not available until mid-summer, and the placement score ensures that you will be able to register for your courses event if the AP scored hasn’t reached us.
- If needed, your course schedule can be updated after orientation once your AP credits have been posted.
- Clear the Bacterial Meningitis hold
- The Bacterial Meningitis hold will prevent you from enrolling in courses during orientation.
- Verify that you have sent all of your academic records to UH
- Log into your College Board account and double check that you have sent UH your AP scores. Note: AP scores are typically sent out in early July.
- If you have taken dual credit courses, make sure that you have sent both your high school and community college transcripts to UH. Your high school transcripts does alone is not enough to received college credit.
Important Reminders
- Students who choose not to enroll in the term they were admitted must reapply for a future term. Admissions decisions do not carry over.
- If you have questions about deferring enrollment, please contact the Office of Admissions.
