ME Professor Retires After 40 Years

Friends and colleagues gathered to honor Stanley Kleis’ distinguished service to the UH department of mechanical engineering at a retirement celebration on Friday, August 23 at the University of Houston.

Cullen College Faculty, Staff Honored for Excellence

UH Cullen College of Engineering faculty and staff were honored for outstanding performance in teaching, research and service at the college’s Spring 2012 Faculty-Staff meeting on May 2. President Renu Khator addressed the group with a special message of her vision for the college, and Dean Joseph Tedesco discussed the college’s progress in a number of areas.

Mohammad Wasy Akhtar, a University of Houston mechanical engineering graduate student, was selected as this year’s recipient of the South Texas Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering’s Hugh Scott Cameron Award.

Engineering Researchers to Improve Test for Cardiovascular Disease


Two University of Houston professors are helping to keep your heart beating stronger, longer simply by monitoring the temperature of your fingertip.

VENDYS, a device mechanical engineering professors Stanley Kleis and Ralph Metcalfe helped to develop, is allowing doctors to monitor how changes in blood flow affect finger temperature to measure an individual’s risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD).

UH Mechanical Engineering Student Claims National NASA Fellowship

University of Houston engineering student Sandy Geffert has been named one of 20 national recipients of the Harriett G. Jenkins Pre-doctoral Fellowship Program from NASA. Geffert is a doctoral student in the mechanical engineering department, and has been working on NASA projects for several years with associate professor Stanley Kleis.

UH Engineering Professor Stanley Kleis Receives Public Service Award from NASA

Stanley Kleis, associate professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering, received one of NASA’s highest honors, the Public Service Medal, at the NASA Honor Awards Ceremony Tuesday at the Johnson Space Center. The award recognizes exceptional contributions to the mission of NASA by those who are not government employees.
