UH Cullen College of Engineering faculty and staff were honored for outstanding performance in teaching, research and service at the college’s Spring 2012 Faculty-Staff meeting on May 2. President Renu Khator addressed the group with a special message of her vision for the college, and Dean Joseph Tedesco discussed the college’s progress in a number of areas.
Ramanan Krishnamoorti, Dow Chair Professor and Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Chair, was honored with the Fluor Corporation Faculty Excellence Award, the highest award given by the college. Paul Ruchhoeft, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, received the W.T. Kittinger Teaching Excellence Award, the college's most prestigious teaching honor. Stanley Kleis, associate professor of mechanical engineering, received the Career Teaching Award.
The outstanding teaching assistant award was given to Mohammad Hossein Poursaeidi in the Department of Industrial Engineering.
Outstanding staff service awards went to college research manager Gerri Hamlett, Betsy Roguer in the Department of Civil and Environmental, and Tammy Engelbosch in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The following invididuals have been recommended by the college as candidates for tenure and promotion: Pradeep Sharma in the Department of Mechanical Engineering was recommended to receive promotion to professor; May Feng in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Zhu Han in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering were recommended for promotions to associate professor with tenure. These recommendations are currently waiting final approval from the Chancellor and UH System Board of Regents.
