Information for Undergraduate Students

The UH Engineering at Sugar Land currently offers ten (10) fully accredited undergraduate degree programs. Our diverse program options help prepare students to meet the needs of a dynamic marketplace that demands competent, well-trained technologists.

The college also offers PROMES, an academic excellence program that offers workshops, mentoring sessions and group activities to Cullen College students. In addition, the college has a dynamic Career Center available for students looking for professional development workshops, internships and jobs.

Freshman Admissions Requirements

For admission rules and requirements applicable to all University of Houston applicants, visit UH Admissions.

The tables below show the technology undergraduate admission criteria for high school graduates and transfer students.

Requirements for Assured Admission for Technology Majors
(Biotechnology, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Information Systems, Construction Management, Digital Media, Electrical Power Engineering Technology, Human Resource Development, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Retailing & Consumer Science, Supply Chain & Logistics Technology, Technology Leadership & Innovation Management)
Pathway 1: Top 10% of graduating class
Pathway 2: 3.5+ Core GPA
Pathway 3: 1250+ SAT or 26+ ACT
Students who do not meet the above requirements for assured admissions to engineering majors should still apply as they will be considered through individual review.

Transfer Students & Major Changes for Current Students

Please consult the UH Admission website to determine if you qualify as a freshman or transfer admit. Current UH students who want to change to a technology major, see General Petition Form for technology major.

To better accommodate the diversity of academic backgrounds of transfer student applicants, the Cullen College of Engineering has adopted a total holistic admission review process. This policy applies to all applicants including those that satisfy transfer admission standards which are as follows.

Readmission

Students seeking readmission from University Academic Suspension or returning to the University of Houston after an interruption of at least four terms or 13 consecutive months into the Cullen College of Engineering must follow the readmissions procedure by the deadline date as outlined here.

New Student Conferences

All new freshman and transfer students admitted to the University of Houston are required to attend an orientation conference. For more information see the University’s New Student Conferences webpage.

Credit by Exam

The University of Houston and Cullen College of Engineering accept credit through various examination programs, including the Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Subject Tests. UH Departmental Exams are also available to test out of certain courses. For more information see the University Testing Services Credit by Examination webpage.
