The Women in Engineering (WIE) Program hosted a Networking & Welcome Back Event on Thursday, October 15th. Students, faculty and alumnae gathered in UH Hilton’s Shamrock Room to enjoy hors d'oeuvres as Dr. Hanadi Rifai, associate dean and director of the environmental engineering graduate program, welcomed attendees with opening remarks. Rifai then introduced Dr. Debora Rodrigues, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, as the new head of the program and Dr. Bonnie Dunbar, M.D. Anderson Professor and director of aerospace engineering, spoke about her experience in the field of engineering.
After the presentations, alumnae and students connected through rounds of “speed networking,” in which alumnae answered students’ questions and shared their own professional experiences.
The mission of the WIE Program at the UH Cullen College of Engineering is to establish a support system for female engineering students, faculty and alumnae, giving them the opportunity to meet fellow peers and to interact with women currently working in the field of engineering.
