Ji Chen, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Houston, has been named a distinguished lecturer by the Electromagnetic Compatibility Society, a division of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Nominated by peers earlier this year, Chen was notified of his selection in late August. He is among two nationwide chosen to hold the post from Jan. 1, 2009 to Dec. 31, 2010.

Throughout the two years, Chen will present—at the request of interested EMC Society chapters across the United States and abroad—one of three lecturers relating to electromagnetic compatability.

The lectureship will provide travel funds for Chen to offer lectures on his chosen topics—biomedical electromagnetic compatibility, wireless EMC and electromagnetic computation. During his appointment, Chen said he could give as many as 50 lecturers on the topics.

Chen received his bachelor’s degree from Huazhong University of Science, his master’s from McMaster University and a Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, all in electrical engineering. He has been a professor in UH’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 2001 where his primary research interests include computational electromagnetics, electromagnetic compatability and bio electromagnetics.
