Dean Announces 2002 Faculty Awards for Teaching, Research

Dean Raymond Flumerfelt announced the winners of this year's faculty teaching and research awards at the UH Cullen College of Engineering's annual Faculty and Staff Meeting on April 30.

Key-Han Wang claimed the W. T. Kittenger Teaching Excellence Award. Wang is an associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Winners of the Cullen College of Engineering Outstanding Teaching Awards include Ovidiu Crisan, professor of electrical and computer engineering; Charles Dalton, professor of mechanical engineering; John L. Hunsucker, associate professor of industrial engineering; Kishore Mohanty, associate professor of chemical engineering; and Michael W. O'Neill, Cullen Distinguished Professor of civil and environmental engineering.

Leang-San Shieh claimed the El Paso Energy Foundation Faculty Achievement Award. Shieh is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Winners of the Cullen College of Engineering Outstanding Lecturer Awards are John M. Martinez, lecturer in chemical engineering; and Charles Rooks, adjunct professor of chemical engineering.

Vipulanandan Cumaraswamy claimed the Cullen College of Engineering Senior Faculty Research Award. Cumaraswamy is a professor and chair in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Todd A. Helwig claimed the Cullen College of Engineering Junior Faculty Research Award. Helwig is an associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

John C. Wolfe claimed the Fluor-Daniel Faculty Excellence Award. Wolfe, who served as interim dean from 1996 to 1998, is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Jeffrey T. Williams was promoted to full professor of electrical and computer engineering. Han Le, professor of electrical and computer engineering, was granted tenure.
