Have you ever wondered how the tiny components and devices inside of your cell phone are made?

The devices inside of your phone and computer – like the integrated circuits, microprocessors and memory chips – are made in a process called lithography (which, in Greek, translates quite literally to “writing on stones”).

The UH Cullen College of Engineering has won its fifth National Science Foundation CAREER Award of 2012. Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Jacinta Conrad received the five-year, $400,000 grant to develop surfaces that limit bacterial motility, or movement.

New Tool to Advance Research Opportunities for Area Scientists, Students

An $800,000 grant from the National Science Foundation will help fund the purchase of a cutting edge tool expected to boost nanofabrication research taking place on campus.

The 50 keV Electron Beam Lithography (EBL) System will be housed in the University of Houston Nanofabrication Facility, a state-of-the-art clean room enabling scientists to manipulate materials at the nanoscale in an environment virtually free from dust and other contaminants that can interfere with results.
