Engineering Professors Among Those Honored for Faculty Excellence

The University of Houston honors its faculty each year for their teaching, research and service contributions during the annual UH Faculty Excellence Awards ceremony. Held this year on April 20, five Cullen College of Engineering faculty received high honors for excellence in teaching, research and mentoring, while 17 faculty were recognized for years of service.

It was 1960 when Charles Dalton, professor of mechanical engineering, stood in front of a classroom to teach for the first time. Forty-three years later, Dalton continues to inspire and guide students through his rigorous curriculum.

Dalton Honored for Service to UH Cullen College of Engineering

Professor Charles Dalton was presented with the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering Service Award at the Fall Faculty and Staff Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 17.

Dean Raymond Flumerfelt presented a plaque to Dalton, professor of mechanical engineering, honoring him "for his dedicated service to the Cullen College of Engineering and especially for his outstanding contribution to the establishment of quality leadership and excellence in our engineering programs."

Dean Announces 2002 Faculty Awards for Teaching, Research

Dean Raymond Flumerfelt announced the winners of this year's faculty teaching and research awards at the UH Cullen College of Engineering's annual Faculty and Staff Meeting on April 30.

Key-Han Wang claimed the W. T. Kittenger Teaching Excellence Award. Wang is an associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Professors Dalton, Wheeler to Be Honored by ASME South Texas Section

Charles Dalton, Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering Professors Charles Dalton and Lewis Wheeler will be honored this week by the South Texas Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Professor Dalton will receive the 2002 Dean W.R. Woolrich Award, recognizing him as the South Texas Section Engineer of the Year. Wheeler, interim chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineer, will be named the 2002 Dean Claude L. Wilson Award for lifetime achievements of an outstanding Engineering Educator.
