HOUSTON — Houston Swimming & Diving senior diver Hedda Grelz was named the Big 12 Women's Swimming & Diving Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced Wednesday.
Grelz, a Spring 2024 graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering, received the Cullen College of Engineering's Outstanding Senior award this year, the second consecutive Cougar to earn the honor (Elizabeth Richardson, 2023). The Lund, Sweden, native received summa cum laude honors with her perfect 4.00 GPA and also was recognized as a Big 12 All-Academic First Team honoree and a College Sport Communicators Academic All-District selection.
She was also the Cullen College of Engineering's Outstanding Senior for the 2023–24 academic year. A profile story for that honor can be found here.
Grelz helped Houston finish second in the team's first trip to the Big 12 Championships, collecting 45 points on the diving boards, while also earning NCAA Zone cuts in all three diving events.
Grelz tallied five podium finishes throughout the season, including four first-place marks. She won the 3-meter competition at the Houston Diving Invite (Oct. 13), against Miami/Rice (Jan. 26) and against SMU (Feb. 3). She also took the top spot in the 1-meter against Miami/Rice while finishing second in the 3-meter at Tulane (Nov. 4).
In August, Grelz starts a part-time internship with Cloverleaf Infrastructure as an analyst. In the fall, she begins an M.S. program in Mechanical Engineering at UH, and she also plans to continue diving. She has one year of NCAA eligibility remaining.
