The UH Cullen College of Engineering earned the bronze Excalibur award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in the category for best reputation/brand management.

The Cullen College’s 2017 reputation campaign challenged traditional stereotypes about engineers and engineering while making a bold statement about what sets Houston’s engineers apart from the rest. Through its biannual Parameters magazine as well as social media and advertising campaigns, the Cullen College Office of Communications told the personal stories of UH engineering students and professors, both inside and outside of their scientific pursuits.

Seeking to make engineering accessible to a wider, mass audience, the 2017 reputation campaign told high-level research stories in down-to-earth fashion, drawing parallels with everday applications of scientific discoveries to make the work approachable for a lay audience. The campaign also gave a face and voice to UH engineering students, professors and alumni, who present (in their own words) the Cullen College of Engineering as a hub of innovation, an exciting institution full of creativity and drive.

Also a finalist in the category, the University of Houston’s fundraising campaign, “Here, We Go” earned a bronze award.

The PRSA Excalibur Awards Gala was held on Thursday, June 21. Hosted by the Houston chapter of Public Relations Society of America, the gala attracts over 200 public relations and communications professionals from Houston’s for-profit and non-profit sectors.

In May, Parameters magazine also earned the American Marketing Association’s (AMA) Crystal Award for best public relations/communications newsletter.
