In 1999, the Cullen College of Engineering established the Engineering Leadership Board (ELB) to provide valuable assistance in the development of programs for the college. Comparable to a company's Board of Directors, the ELB provides advice and counsel, assists in establishing program priorities and objectives, provides review and critique, provides liaison to the outside industrial and government communities, promotes college interests inside and outside the University, and helps define needs and assists in the development of resources.
Each fall, the Cullen College hosts a dinner and meeting for members of the ELB. The event provides ELB members with insight into new college developments and offers them the opportunity to ask questions and share feedback.
This year, the two-day event began with a dinner at the Houston Club on the evening of Thursday, November 5. At the dinner, Tedesco honored The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research Foundation, also known as TIRR Foundation, and the Offshore Industry Crawfish Boil Committee with induction into the Bridgebuilder Society.
On Friday, November 6, members of the ELB attended a meeting at the University of Houston’s Hilton. At the meeting, Tedesco shared his vision for the future of the Cullen College by introducing his strategic plan. Other speakers included ELB chair Heidi Alderman, director of Undergraduate Programs and Student Success Fritz Claydon, director of the PROMES Program Diana de la Rosa-Pohl, electrical and computer engineering professor and director of Office of Undergraduate Research Stuart Long, Bill Fendley and Welcome Wilson, Sr. After the presentations concluded, ELB members enjoyed lunch with current engineering students.
