Mary Schulz received the Dean's Meritorious Staff Award at the UH Cullen College of Engineering's third annual Staff Appreciation Day on March 18.
Mary Schulz, academic advising specialist in the engineering dean's office, received the award from faculty and staff nominations and recommendations. "It is such a privilege and an honor to be chosen among my peers," said Schulz. "I enjoy helping students, faculty and staff."
Those who nominated her said that she is "honest, polite, modest, sensitive, energetic, full of initiative and a great listener." Schulz, who has been at UH for over 25 years, has always worked under the customer-friendly policy, according to Sharon Gates, advising assistant in chemical engineering.
"In the 65 years (47 at UH) I have been teaching, doing research and carrying on numerous international programs, I would rank Mary Schulz among the very best staff members with whom I have worked," said Frank Tiller, professor emeritus.
"Mary has a wide impact on college student-related activities and is well-respected across UH because of her dedication to serving her clientele," said Larry Witte, associate dean of undergraduate programs.
According to co-worker Shirley Mate, "When Mary works on a project she takes a personal interest in analyzing every detail. Some of her excellent work has been Graduation, Orientation and Cougar Preview."
Mary has received the George Magner Award for Academic Advising and the Staff Excellence Award, both university-wide awards.
