The Cullen College of Engineering offers its congratulations to four professors that have earned University of Houston Faculty Awards for the 2024–25 academic year.

The Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost is proud to sponsor a number of awards for faculty, with the vision of promoting and recognizing excellence at the University of Houston. This year’s winners from Cullen are:

  • Kalyana Nakshatrala, Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has earned a Teaching Excellence Award. This recognizes excellence in teaching both individuals and groups. His research website is available here.
  • Burak Basaran, Instructional Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology, is the winner of an Instructor Teaching Excellence Award. His staff bio is available here.
  • Venkatesh Balan, Associate Professor of Biotechnology, earned an Undergraduate Research Mentor Award. This honor recognizes the dedicated practice of undergraduate mentorship at UH and encourages faculty to support that aspect of the university's mission. His staff bio is available here.
  • Jerrod A. Henderson, Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, won the Global Award. This is given to faculty that have demonstrated excellence in the promotion of internationally focused teaching, research, and/or service. His research website is available here.
