The Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Houston’s Cullen College of Engineering ranked No. 6 in College Factual’s most recent rankings for the best value schools for majors.

According to statistics provided by College Factual, this puts the program in the top 5 percent of the country for Mechanical Engineering students seeking a bachelor’s degree. The school improved its ranking by nine slots from last year’s ranking of No. 15.

The ranking is the best for colleges and universities in Texas, out of 21 institutions offering similar programs. According to figures from College Factual, in the 2018-19 academic year, 212 students graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Graduates of the program earned salaries between $59,100 and $65,475 in 2017-18 according to data from the Department of Education.

According to College Factual, rankings are determined by weighing nine different factors. The most prominent are the overall quality of the university, the earnings by graduates, whether the institution has earned accreditation, and the interplay and connection of majors at a college.
