Engineers are typically known for their intellectual talents and abilities, but on Thursday they’ll be showing off a different set of skills. Every year, Cullen College students, alumni and corporate sponsors show off their culinary prowess at the IEEE Chili Cook Off, and this year’s competition will be held on March 12 from 4 – 10 p.m. in front of Engineering Building 1.

“This event creates a great sense of community within the IEEE Student Chapter and engineering students, because it shows the outstanding reach and influence of both the Cullen College and IEEE,” said Jorge Revuelta, IEEE-UH Student Chapter president. In addition to a fun evening of eating, drinking, music and games, the Chili Cook Off is a great networking opportunity for students to meet corporate representatives.

According to Revuelta, 17 student organizations are taking part in the cook off in addition to IEEE. “They bring out activities like a mechanical bull, bean bag toss, a giant Jenga,” he said. The planning process for an event of this magnitude begins several months in advance, but he said the work makes for a great time. “It’s an exciting event for the engineering community, and it promotes collaboration and networking in the Cullen College.”

The event will begin at 4 p.m. with the cook off competition taking place at 6 p.m.
