Communications Staff Earn National, Regional Honors

Staff in the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering’s Office of Communications were recently honored by four organizations for work done in 2009. Among their 14 awards were two first place honors.

The first, given by the Public Relations Society of America’s Houston Chapter, recognized the college’s longtime research magazine,Parameters, in the external magazine category. It was one of four awards garnered by staff this year that acknowledges the magazine.

Last week, Thomas Shea, the college’s photographer, took home a national honor from the University Photographers Association of America in the contest’s personal vision category.

In all, awards were received from:

Public Relations Society of America, Houston Chapter: Gold Excalibur Award for Parameters magazine.

Houston Press Club Lone Star Awards: Second Place in the public relations magazine category for Parametersmagazine as well as second and third for photography.

Council for Advancement and Support of Education: Award of Excellence (second place) for the bearings brochure, Award of Excellence (second place) for Parameters magazine, Achievement Award (third place) forParameters fall 2009 edition and Special Award (honorable mention) for the diesel brochure.

University Photographers Association of America: First place in the personal vision category, second place for portraits, second place for magazine photography, second place for science and research, honorable mention for sports feature and honorable mention for portraits.
