Future Faculty Program — Alumni Success Stories

Current Position: Assistant Professor, Chemical and Materials Engineering at Concordia University
“In the FFP program, I enjoyed the regular discussions about academic vs industrial careers, how to prepare for faculty interviews, and many more topics. Most of the discussions were centered around US schools, however Dr. Sharma took the time to direct me towards Canadian academics for more specific advice. Being from Canada and looking for positions in both the US and Canada, I really appreciated this. In the time since the FFP program I finished my PhD at UH, returned to Canada to complete my postdoctoral research at the University of Calgary, instructed courses at the University of Waterloo, and now I am working as an Assistant Professor. The FFP program prepared me for what to expect during my postdoctoral research and introduced me to different teaching approaches and how to develop my own teaching philosophy. Through the FFP teaching practicum I was able to practice and develop my teaching during my time instructing two courses at UH. I further developed my teaching practice by teaching a course at the University of Calgary during my postdoctoral work, and during my time as a lecturer at the University of Waterloo. I am extremely grateful for all the lessons I learned in the FFP program, and how it prepared me for my current position. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build my research program and further develop my teaching practices at Concordia University.”
