Moscow Summer Intern Program for UH Engineering Students

Students at the University of Houston are eligible to participate in the Moscow Summer Intern Program as part of a student initiative of the Baker Institute Space Policy Program. The program is a wonderful opportunity for all UH students, but especially those with engineering expertise and an excitement for space exploration!

UH Selected to Lead Offshore Energy Research Center

The University of Houston will lead a national research center for subsea engineering and other offshore energy development issues, including research and technology to improve the sustainable and safe development of energy resources in the Gulf of Mexico.

The work is intended to reduce the risk of offshore accidents, oil spills and other deepwater disasters.

Undergraduate Research Day 2014!

This year's Undergraduate Research Day will take place Thursday, October 9th at 4 p.m. in the Rockwell Pavilion at the M.D. Anderson Library at the University of Houston main campus.

Out of the 150 undergraduate researchers showcasing their posters and oral presentations, 20 will be undergraduates from the UH Cullen College of Engineering.

It may be hidden from the bulk of UH’s main campus, but the Energy Research Park (ERP) houses some of the Cullen College’s most exciting research developments and advancements. OE Digital, a digital offshore intelligence  publication, recently profiled the ERP and the promising programs headquartered there in an article on their website.

Cullen College Equips Students for Growing Industry Needs, Chronicle Says

"About five or six years ago, industry leaders came to us and said they needed petroleum engineers, and we are continuing to tailor our programs to meet the industry's needs," Shattuck said.

The International Energy Agency predicts the demand for energy and corresponding expertise for the exploration and production industries will grow by one-third over the next 20 years. Faced with that looming increase, industry leaders are looking at how best to bulk up their workforce with trained and experienced engineers.

6th Annual Hurricane and Disasters Conference to be Held on August 1

In recent years, the Gulf Coast region has been tremendously affected by the landfall of large hurricanes. In 2005, Category 3 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the coastal regions of Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, and in 2008, Hurricane Ike (a Category 2 storm) came ashore over Galveston and wreaked havoc in the Houston area, knocking out power to many customers in the greater Houston metro area for several weeks.
