Women in Engineering Program Kicks Off Semester With Annual Networking Event

More than 80 UH engineering students, faculty and alumnae came together at the 2016 Women in Engineering Program’s Welcome Back Networking Mixer held at the UH Hilton on October 12.

The Women in Engineering Program at the UH Cullen College of Engineering fosters a community of support among UH female engineers, giving them the opportunity to meet fellow peers and allowing female students to interact with women currently working in the field.

This year’s networking event, sponsored by Chevron Phillips Chemical, invited all female UH engineers to mix, mingle and enjoy free drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Several recruiters from Chevron Phillips Chemical attended the event to meet with the best and brightest women from the Cullen College about potential employment opportunities.

After the networking portion of the event, attendees enjoyed a presentation by Tricia Opincar, recruiting manager at Chevron Phillips Chemical, about the career options available for engineers at the Fortune 500 company.

UH engineering alumnae Cynthia Oliver Coleman, who earned her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1971, is a leader, donor and advocate for the UH Women in Engineering Program. She spoke at the event as well, expressing gratitude to Chevron Phillips for their sponsorship of the event and involvement in outreach efforts aimed at recruiting and retaining more women in the engineering field.
