University of Houston President Renu Khator visited the Cullen College of Engineering last week to discuss major college initiatives and strategic planning with Dean Joseph Tedesco and the college's executive council.

As part of her First 100 Days campaign, Dr. Khator is reaching out to the UH community for feedback and suggestions in an effort to chart new directions for the university. She is meeting with each college administration, members of the faculty and staff, and select groups within the student body to gain valuable insight into research and academic programs university-wide.

While visiting the Cullen College of Engineering, Dr. Khator had an opportunity to greet many engineering faculty, staff and students while touring the engineering career and computing centers, before attending a reception where she discussed the role that engineering will play in the university's future.

She also toured Professor Dmitri Litvinov's electromagnetics laboratory to see some of the college's pioneering nanomaterials research and visited an Academic Excellence Workshop, which is supported by the college's engineering education grants.
