Cullen College Hosts 24th Annual Engineering Golf Tournament

More than 20 teams gathered at Sienna Plantation Golf Club in Missouri City on Monday, April 8 for the UH Cullen College of Engineering 24th annual Golf Tournament. The yearly event, which raises money for academic programs and scholarships, was founded by mechanical engineering Professor Emeritus and tournament chair Larry Witte in 1989.

The UH Cullen College of Engineering hosted its 23rd Annual Golf Tournament at Sienna Plantation Golf Course on Monday, April 9. More than 25 teams registered to play in the tournament, which raises money for the college.

Larry Witte, professor of mechanical engineering and golf tournament chair, presented a $25,000 check to Dean Joseph Tedesco for student scholarships. Over the course of the tournament's history, some $100,000 has been raised for the college.

Engineering Professors Among Those Honored for Faculty Excellence

The University of Houston honors its faculty each year for their teaching, research and service contributions during the annual UH Faculty Excellence Awards ceremony. Held this year on April 20, five Cullen College of Engineering faculty received high honors for excellence in teaching, research and mentoring, while 17 faculty were recognized for years of service.

Larry Witte has just about enough hats to cover every day of the month tucked away in his closet.

These baseball-style caps are not about fashion for this professor of mechanical engineering. Each represent a year he’s organized the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering’s annual golf tournament.

College Delegation to Explore Collaborations with Indian Universities

A delegation from the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering will travel to India next month to explore the possibility of establishing collaborative relationships between the college and universities in that country.

According to Larry Witte, the college’s associate dean of graduate studies and the delegation’s leader, such collaborations would likely entail joint faculty research projects and student-exchange programs.

Engineering Alumni Association Announces Recipients of the 2006 Distinguished Alumni Awards

Each year, the Engineering Alumni Association hosts the Distinguished Engineering Awards banquet to recognize alumni, faculty and friends of the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering who have made significant professional and academic contributions. The banquet will be held at the Four Season's Hotel in Downtown Houston on June 2.
