Moscow Summer Intern Program for UH Engineering Students

Students at the University of Houston are eligible to participate in the Moscow Summer Intern Program as part of a student initiative of the Baker Institute Space Policy Program. The program is a wonderful opportunity for all UH students, but especially those with engineering expertise and an excitement for space exploration!

UH Selected to Lead Offshore Energy Research Center

The University of Houston will lead a national research center for subsea engineering and other offshore energy development issues, including research and technology to improve the sustainable and safe development of energy resources in the Gulf of Mexico.

The work is intended to reduce the risk of offshore accidents, oil spills and other deepwater disasters.

Undergraduate Research Day 2014!

This year's Undergraduate Research Day will take place Thursday, October 9th at 4 p.m. in the Rockwell Pavilion at the M.D. Anderson Library at the University of Houston main campus.

Forty five years ago on July 29, 1969, the United States sent NASA mission Apollo 11 to space in what would be the nation’s first successful trip to the moon. On that mission, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to step food on the moon.

6th Annual Hurricane and Disasters Conference to be Held on August 1

In recent years, the Gulf Coast region has been tremendously affected by the landfall of large hurricanes. In 2005, Category 3 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the coastal regions of Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, and in 2008, Hurricane Ike (a Category 2 storm) came ashore over Galveston and wreaked havoc in the Houston area, knocking out power to many customers in the greater Houston metro area for several weeks.

Phillips 66 Donation Strengthens Ties to University of Houston

The University of Houston’s colleges of business and engineering have gained new support from one of the city’s energy leaders, which has donated money to a variety of programs and student support services.

Phillips 66, a Houston-based energy manufacturing and logistics company, was created in 2012 through a split with ConocoPhillips. It cracked the top 10 in the Fortune 500 last year, reaching No. 6 with revenue over $161 billion in 2013.

ME Chairman and Student Publish Paper on World's Thinnest Piezoelectric Material in Nature Communications

There are a handful of naturally occurring materials, known as piezoelectric materials, which generate electricity if you bend, stretch, or apply another mechanical force to them, and vice versa – if you apply a voltage across them, they’ll deform accordingly. These materials are currently the subject of intense research for their potential applications in energy harvesting, artificial muscles and sensors, among others.
