Resilient Communities
While Houston is a vibrant area of human and animal life, its position on the upper Texas Gulf Coast means it is vulnerable to hurricanes, flooding and extreme heat. However, this turbulent ecosystem also provides opportunities for the research at the Cullen College of Engineering, both in the immediate area and by applying concepts to other areas across the globe.
At the National Center for Airborne Laser Mapping (NCALM), research-quality airborne light detection and ranging (lidar) observations has led to finding ancient villages in Latin and South America, and revelations about flooding following Hurricane Harvey.
