A professor at the Cullen College of Engineering has been chosen for a prestigious Associate Editor position of Macromolecules, a publication of the American Chemical Society.

Megan L. Robertson, Cullen College of Engineering Professor in the William A. Brookshire Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, started her editor position in 2023. Macromolecules publishes original, fundamental, and impactful research on all aspects of polymer science.

“I have published articles in Macromolecules since my time as a graduate student, and the journal therefore holds special significance for me as a researcher. I am incredibly excited to join the Editorial Board of this journal and look forward to interacting with our authors and reviewers in this new capacity,” Robertson said.

ACS has published Macromolecules since 1968, starting as a bimonthly publication. It is now published twice per month. The current editor-in-chief is Marc A. Hillmyer, McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair and the Director of the Center for Sustainable Polymers at the University of Minnesota's Department of Chemistry.

Robertson has other connections with ACS, as she was one of 45 Fellows chosen for the 2022 class of ACS Fellows. She also received the Rubber Division Sparks-Thomas Award in 2018, and was an ACS Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE) Division Young Investigator in 2017. She is currently the Chair-Elect of the ACS PMSE Division and will be the PMSE Division Chair in 2024. Robertson has published frequently in Macromolecules, with 31 papers through 2023. Robertson’s research focuses on developing polymeric materials with enhanced physical properties and function, with emphasis on sustainability aspects.  This includes developing polymers from bioresources, green routes for synthesis and processing, and end-of-life methods for their disposal and reuse, including degradation, recycling, and upcycling.

Robertson joined the University of Houston faculty in 2010, after two years as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Minnesota. Prior to that, she worked as a senior scientist for Rohm and Haas, now Dow Chemical. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and her B.S. from Washington University in St. Louis.
