On Thursday, April 7th, the UH Cullen College of Engineering hosted the 38th Annual PROMES Awards Banquet in the Student Center Ballroom on the UH campus.

The evening kicked off with a research poster presentation and a cash bar, followed by a buffet dinner and the awards ceremony.

The event boasted a variety of distinguished speakers including PROMES director Diana de la Rosa-Pohl, PROMES program manager Toni Richerson, director of undergraduate programs and student success Fritz Claydon, and assistant professor in the UH Engineering First Year Experience program Daniel Burleson, among others.

More than 60 students, including 28 scholarship recipients, were recognized with awards for outstanding academic and leadership success at the banquet. Attendees also had the opportunity to mingle and network with current students, alumni, faculty and industry professionals.

Several student and professional organizations, including the National Society for Black Engineers, MAES, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, Engineer Without Borders, and Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers, assisted with the event.

PROMES, which stands for the Program for Mastery in Engineering Studies, provides Cullen College students with recruitment, academic advising, workshops, scholarships, and professional and personal development opportunities. The program was established in 1974 to encourage the recruitment, retention and academic development of underrepresented minorities in engineering. Today, PROMES is open to all Cullen College students and strives to provide a positive learning environment that supports the needs of undergraduate students.
