Alumni from the Cullen College department of electrical and computer engineering gathered for their annual alumni mixer at the St. Arnolds brewery this month in a celebration of old friends and new.

This year’s ECE alumni mixer stayed true to its “annual” title, falling exactly one year after last fall’s event. Over 80 guests RSVP’ed to the mixer, and those who braved the cold weather enjoyed freshly brewed beers and warm conversation with fellow and former engineering Coogs. Joseph Tedesco, dean of the Cullen College, and Badrinath Roysam, ECE chair, both spoke.

ORGANIC CATHODE OFFERS MORE RELIABLE CONTACT WITH ELECTROLYTE, A KEY TO STABILITY

Solid-state sodium-ion batteries are far safer than conventional lithium-ion batteries, which pose a risk of fire and explosions, but their performance has been too weak to offset the safety advantages. Researchers Friday reported developing an organic cathode that dramatically improves both stability and energy density.
