Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's Hanumant Singh to Speak

The University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering will host a talk from one of the world’s leading experts on underwater imaging and robotics, Hanumant Singh of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI).

Singh will speak at UH on Friday, March 11, as the 2011 Rockwell Lecturer for the college. He is a researcher with WHOI’s Deep Submergence Laboratory, a group founded by the scientist best know for finding the wreckage of the Titanic, Robert Ballard.

At WHOI, Sing researches underwater robotics and imaging, with projects covering photomosaicing, visually based navigation and 3D image reconstruction. His talk will cover how imaging and robotics technologies have combined to make advances in the study of marine geology, biology, chemistry and archaeology, among others.

The Rockwell Lecture honors the late Elizabeth Rockwell, who studied business at Rice University and the University of Houston and went on to become a nationally recognized expert in retirement, estate, investment and tax planning. She was a long-time and generous supporter and advocate of the Cullen College and the University of Houston as a whole.
