Kishore Mohanty, a professor in the Cullen College of Engineering’s Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, will be honored during the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ upcoming Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition. The conference is set for Nov. 11 through Nov. 14 in Anaheim, Calif.

Mohanty is being recognized as a SPE Distinguished Member for 2007. The designation goes to those “whose achievements and/or service to the society are deemed worthy of special recognition.” According to the group’s website, the number of Distinguished Members can make up no more than 1% of the SPE’s total membership.

As director of the college’s Institute for Improved Oil Recovery, Mohanty’s research focuses on efforts to retrieve hard-to-access petroleum through various methods, including the use of surfactants and carbon flooding.

“I am very grateful to the SPE for this recognition and I hope that, in the years ahead, the society and its members continue to find value in my research and publications,” Mohanty said.
