UH G.R.A.D.E. Camp Celebrates 15 Years of Introducing Engineering to New Generations of Girls

Julie Rogers, a Cullen College mechanical engineering senior and a G.R.A.D.E. Camp counselor, works with camper Natalie Cramer, an 8th-grader from Pearland.

Spending summer days engineering can be creative, empowering and fun. Imagine taking bits and pieces of circuitry, plastic and metal to build robots, then programming them to navigate mazes; venturing out into the warm sunshine with friends to collect water from the UH campus pond and testing it for invisible microbes; or creating Texas-shaped earrings using a 3-D printer. These are defining moments of doing, creating memories and building friendships.

UH Researchers Win $1M Award to Boost Student Success

Lisette Montemayor, incoming freshman, is part of UH's newest Student Success Program funded by the NSF.

The National Science Foundation awarded a $999,029 grant to a team of University of Houston researchers for a new program aimed at studying the impact of scholarships, engagement and other support on low-income students and their academic success.

G.R.A.D.E. Camp Redefines STEM Field Roles

Engineering and computer science professions attract fewer women than other STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields in the United States. For more than a decade, professors at the UH Cullen College of Engineering have worked to change this longstanding tradition by hosting summer engineering camps strictly for girls.
