Top Companies Recruit UH Engineers at Fall Career Fair

Students at the UH Cullen College of Engineering aren't just expected to do well in their labs and classes -- engineering students are expected to work in their respective fields of study while pursuing their degrees in order to land their dream jobs after college. That's why the Cullen College's Career Center offers two Engineering Career Fairs each year, one in the spring and one in the fall, to connect students to the top employers around the country early on in their academic careers.

Nearly 450 Students Graduated at The Fall 2017 Engineering Convocation

The UH Cullen College of Engineering held its fall convocation ceremony on Thursday, December 14, recognizing nearly 450 graduating students at the Bayou City Events Center. The ceremony featured a keynote address from UH alumna Cynthia Oliver Coleman (BSChE `71), who spent her 33-year career at Exxon Mobil holding various positions in gas engineering, reservoir engineering, engineering applications, engineering recruiting and engineering information systems.

Students, faculty, alumni and friends of the UH Cullen College of Engineering gathered for breakfast tacos, drinks and games to celebrate the 2017 Engineering Homecoming and gear up for the UH Football game against East Carolina. 

In addition to catching up with old friends, attendees enjoyed mimosas and Bloody Marys provided by the Engineering Alumni Association and entered to win raffle prizes that were announced throughout the event.

Doctoral candidate Sara Pouladi won the Best Poster Award for her work on thin film solar cells at the 44th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference in Washington D.C.

Titled “Flexible GaAs single-junction solar cells based on single-crystal-like thin-film materials directly grown on metal tapes," the work offers that III-V compound semiconductor materials are the top candidates for thin-film photovoltaics.

College Holds Memorial for Dedicated Alumnus and Supporter William A. Brookshire

More than 500 guests honored the memory and legacy of dedicated UH alumnus and long-time supporter William A. Brookshire at a memorial service held in his honor this summer. The Brookshire Memorial Service was held at the UH Student Center on May 19, nearly one month after Brookshire’s passing in April.

William A. Brookshire Leaves Legacy of Generosity and Dedication to the Cullen College

On May 19 at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Brookshire’s family will host a memorial on the UH campus at the Student Center, Houston Room. Friends and family are invited.

UH alumnus William A. Brookshire, Ph.D. (BSChE '57), co-founder and chairman of the board of S&B Engineers and Constructors, died on April 21, 2017.

Joseph Tedesco, Elizabeth D. Rockwell Dean of the Cullen College of Engineering said, “Dr. Brookshire was a fine gentleman and one of our great philanthropists, always in search of new ways to help students and professors. We will forever feel his generosity and his loss in equal measures.”

UH Materials Research Society Student Chapter Hosts Campus Symposium

Winners all around at the UH-MRS symposium!

The University of Houston-Materials Research Society Chapter (UH-MRS) hosted its first student symposium in the main lobby of engineering building 1. At the symposium students presented their work to an esteemed crowd of professional members across various engineering and science disciplines at UH. The 40 presenters came from different departments including chemistry, physics; and chemical, mechanical, materials and electrical engineering.
