RESEARCH FOCUS AREAS
Data Science, AI and Intelligent Systems
Future advancements and job opportunities in many fields will revolve around the ability to effectively parse through and manage enormous data sets with computer-assisted tools. The researchers at the Cullen College of Engineering have been using AI, machine learning and other techniques for years — ahead of the current technological curve, instead of reacting to it.
As part of this effort, there are several multidisciplinary groups leveraging these advanced technologies for practical and ethical research developments. The Hewlett Packard Enterprise Data Science Institute, compromised of Cullen and NSM professors, supports and strengthens the university’s research and academic interests in data science. The Assured and Intelligent Robotics (AIR) Lab has the aim of enhancing the reliability of safety-critical robotic systems deployed in real-world scenarios, ranging from autonomous driving and race cars to lower-limb exoskeletons and industrial control systems.
