Aerospace
Given its presence in Space City, the Cullen College of Engineering has established vital links with the aerospace industry. While the name is enshrined in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, there are tendrils of the space program in every area of study at the College, like biomedical engineering students examining crew longevity and civil engineering students working with NASA satellites to examine waterways on Earth.
Beyond the work of professors in individual departments though, Cullen also offers several aerospace-focused initiatives and labs. The NASA MIRO Inflatable Deployable Environments and Adaptive Space Systems (IDEAS2) Center supports the agency’s goal of extending human presence in our solar system for sustainable, long-term space exploration, development and utilization. The Sasakawa International Center for Space Architecture (SICSA) is the only one of its kind in the world — a space architecture program involving engineers and technical architects, teaming up to design missions and operations from the ground up.
