The Cullen College celebrated the groundbreaking of a $65 million academic building on Thursday, October 5. This new building will be named the Technology Building-Sugar Land Academic Building 2, the three-floor, approximately 75,000 square-foot building will be to the UH Cullen College of Engineering-Technology Division.

UH has been awarded a $63.5 million contract by the U.S. Department of Defense–the largest contract or grant ever awarded to the University. Craig Glennie will lead the team of researchers that will help the Army to build realistic modeling, analysis and simulation tools for new technologies.

UH’s Selva Research Group received $2 million for a three-year project, titled “Low-Cost, High-Rate Fabrication of High-Performance, Uniform, Long REBCO Conductors.” The project will scale up the advanced metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) process developed by the team and address key metrics such as speed and cost of production, and uniformity of tape performance.

Gino J. Lim has earned the 2023 Distinguished Educator Award at the 8th annual North American Industrial Engineering & Operations Management Conference. The award recognizes IE and operations management educators making contributions in their field through peer reviewed journals, securing funding, and creative teaching methods.

Ying Lin and Qianmei (May) Feng have received a grant from the University of Houston’s Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AMI) to use machine learning techniques to understand and improve the manufacturing process for superconductors.

Yisha Xiang, has received a grant from the University of Houston’s Advanced Manufacturing Institute to apply machine learning methods to control the manufacturing process of high temperature superconductors (HTS).

Through a HEALTH-RCMI Pilot Program Award, Zhengwei Li will develop a wearable biosensor that promises to detect colorectal cancer and provide real-time health monitoring through your smartphone.

|
Dr. Rahimi has received a grant from DOE for the Development of Modular Electrochemical Tubes to Remove Dissolved Inorganic Carbon from the Ocean. This research could eliminate ion exchange membranes by controlling pH using environmentally friendly electrodes.

University of Houston’s Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers has earned their second consecutive Gold Chapter Award. Recipients of this award have an active community, succession plan, and must be graduating two college level members to IISE Young Professional status.
