Joseph W. Tedesco, Elizabeth D. Rockwell dean of the Cullen College, recognized faculty, staff and students for their outstanding performance in teaching, research and service at the spring faculty and staff meeting held on May 3.
The meeting kicked off with the announcement of the 2014–2015 faculty excellence awards. The Fluor Corporation Faculty Excellence award, the college’s highest honor, was awarded to Gangbing Song, John and Rebecca Moores professor of mechanical engineering. The College’s most prestigious teaching award, the W.T. Kittinger Teaching Excellence Award, was given to Yashashree Kulkarni, Bill D. Cook associate professor of mechanical engineering.
Micky (Miguel) Fleischer, adjunct professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, received the College’s Career Teaching Award.
A total of two outstanding staff service awards are granted annually. Winsome Chee, college research administrator, received the senior-level staff service award for over 10 years of outstanding service. Audrey Grayson, executive director of communications, received the junior-level staff service awards for 10 years or less of outstanding service to the college.
The college also announced four winners of the 2015-2016 best dissertation awards: Civil and environmental engineering student Maruti Mudunuru and mechanical engineering students Nikhil Walani and Matthew Zelisko all received first place awards, which carry a $1,000 honorarium. Jiasong Li, a biomedical engineering student, received the second place award and a $250 honorarium.
