President, Macro Enterprises

As founder and President of Macro Enterprises Ltd, Tom Sofka has provided Project Management, IT systems design and consulting and development of custom software solutions for primarily Fortune 500 companies. Since founding Macro after graduation and working in the software development business over the last 45+ years, Tom and consultants associated with Macro have provided hundreds of solutions across nearly every industry primarily where no product was available to buy. This experience covered multiple platforms as computing has evolved covering mainframes, mini-computers and through to the internet and cloud services.

An entrepreneur at heart, Tom began consulting immediately after obtaining a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Houston in 1975. Initially consulting as an independent to various engineering firms the company Macro grew to about 50 consultants. Most of the company was sold around 2008, and Macro continued with a smaller staff focusing on special projects.

During this entire career, a strong desire to give back to UH existed, and Tom has been involved in many ways over the years. As first President of the current Engineering Alumni Association, he played a key role getting the EAA going and served on the board for many years eventually becoming EAA President a second time. Tom has also received the EAA Engineering Leadership Service Award in 1990.

In addition, Tom has served both on the UH Engineering Leadership Board and the Electrical and Computer Engineering Industrial Advisory Board for over 20 years

Tom has been married to his wife Nancy for over 38 years and has 4 daughters.
