Lisa Robertson, the Cullen College of Engineering Executive Director of External Relations and Strategic Partnerships, has received the Difference Maker Award from the University Commission on Women (UCW), in recognition of her efforts in supporting gender equity, inclusiveness and policies that benefit women and families.

The commission’s Difference Maker Awards were established to acknowledge a faculty, staff, student or administrator whose efforts support the goals of the UCW, including the promotion of faculty and staff advancement.

Most recently, Robertson’s tireless enthusiasm as project manager of the UH ADVANCE proposal won the attention and admiration of colleagues.

“Lisa Robertson is a great asset to the College of Engineering and the University of Houston in many ways, but she has recently made quite a difference with writing and organizing the ADVANCE grant,” said Beverly McPhail, Ph.D., director of the UH Women’s Resource Center. “The grant seeks to gain funding and plan programming to address the issue of recruitment, retention, and promotion of female STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) faculty and Lisa has been a driving force behind arranging meetings and workgroups to work on the grant.”

Although the initial grant proposal was not funded several years ago, Robertson played an integral role in efforts to create a more robust plan for the resubmittal, now underway.

“I really admire Lisa and her “can do” attitude,” McPhail said. “She tells it like she sees it and her forthrightness and assertiveness are refreshing.”

The University Commission on Women is the only presidentially-appointed commission on campus. Their mission is to identify the concerns of women at the university; promote gender equity throughout all areas of the university community; recommend to the appropriate administrative offices ways to address the concerns of women at the university; communicate and collaborate with other committees and organizations to provide support, advocacy and information regarding women’s issues; and to raise awareness regarding behaviors, actions, issues, policies and procedures that affect the status of women.
