Eleven engineering students, along with nine other University of Houston students, have been selected to receive University Scholars Program scholarships for a semester of research.

The University Scholars Program enriches the undergraduate experience by providing talented juniors and seniors with the opportunity to participate in a research project under the direction of a UH faculty mentor. University Scholars will receive a $1,000 scholarship to conduct research and engage in other scholarly activities with faculty members.

Participants must perform at least 7 hours of research a week for a total of 100 hours per semester under the guidance of their faculty mentor. They also may be invited to make poster presentations of their research to faculty and peers at the UH Research and Scholarship Day.

During the academic year, scholars may participate in a workshop to inform them about how to apply to graduate or professional schools, how to prepare for graduate and professional school admissions tests, financing graduate and professional study, and developing the research, writing, and presentation skills necessary for success in graduate and professional school.
