Engineers Week 2008

Overview
The UH Engineering Alumni Association hosted the 2008 Engineers Week Reception & Program at the UH Hilton Hotel on the Tuesday (February 19) of National Engineers Week to support future engineers (UH engineering students) and celebrate how engineers make a difference in our world.  A total of $28,550 in awards was presented to 43 students and 2 student organizations at the reception program that was attended by about 220 engineering alumni, students, sponsors, faculty, and staff.  The 18 sponsors were UH Petroleum Engineering Advisory Board, FMC Technologies, BP Alternative Energy, ExxonMobil Women Engineer UH Alumni, Shell Oil Company, Bechtel, Fluor Corporation, Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., UH Engineering Alumni Association, Baker Hughes, Bayer Technology Services, INTEC Engineering, Kalsi Engineering, Inc., Marathon Oil Company, Reliant Energy, Society of Women Engineers-Houston, TCB, Inc., and Traffic Engineers, Inc.

The “Engineering Jeopardy” game show (spin-off of “Jeopardy” TV show) was performed by alumni and students.  The finale of the “Engineering Community Outreach” competition was performed by FMC Technologies (sponsor), alumni, and student organizations.  The audience participated in the “EWeek Fun & Prizes” game that was conducted by a student organization (IEEE).

Weeks prior to the reception & program, the UH Engineering Alumni Association hosted an engineering outreach competition for student organizations to participate in and show how engineers make a difference in the community via schools and non-profit organizations.  The following five student organizations participated:  ASCE, ASME, EWB, NSBE, and PAC.

EWeek Reception & Program
The 2008 Engineers Week Reception & Program was held on February 19, 2008 at the UH Hilton Hotel.  During the reception, company representatives along with engineering students, alumni, faculty, and staff, mingled and enjoyed light hors d’oeuvres and beverages.  The program included the award presentations, game show, and outreach finale indicated below, and concluded with an audience-participation game.
