Kirill Larin is developing technology that can peer into the fetal brain to assess how it is impacted by maternal drinking and smoking. He is also bringing the technology into clinical settings to diagnose and prevent eye disease.

Jiefu Chen and Xiaonan Shan are partnering with a colleague from Howard University to find a more efficient way to convert hydrocarbons, such as methane, to hydrogen using microwave plasma.

Hyongki Lee received $692,410 in additional funding for a three-year extension of his research work which examines land subsidence, flood forecasting and groundwater management in the Mekong region of Southeast Asia.
