Spring 2012 Parameters Now Online

The latest issue of Parameters magazine is now available online. This issue features biomolecular-related research conducted by college faculty, including efforts to diagnose diseases, develop new medications and mass produce biologically derived molecules. Alumni Awards Gala Set for June 1

Since 1987, the Engineering Alumni Association has hosted its annual Awards Gala to honor alumni, faculty and friends of the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering who have made significant contributions to society and the profession. The 2012 Cullen College of Engineering Alumni Awards Gala will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Downtown Houston on Friday, June 1, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. This year's honorees include alums Rick Coneway, Rebecca Ginsburg, Wayne Klotz, and William Miller and Professor Demetre Economou. Science Paper has Ramifications for Fuel Cells, Hydrogen Storage

Science, one of the world’s leading scientific journals, has published an article co-authored by a professor with the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering that uncovers how hydrogen moves along an iron oxide surface when in the presence of water. The findings could have implications for everything from hydrogen storage to catalysis to fuel cell-powered vehicles. The paper, which appears in the publication’s May 18 issue, was co-written by Lars Grabow, assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering. Read More


ECE Professor Ovidiu Crisan Retires

Friends, colleagues and students of Professor Ovidiu Crisan celebrated his career achievements at a retirement luncheon this month. Crisan came to the Cullen College of Engineering as a visiting professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Two years later he was promoted to professor, a position he held for 26 years. Through the years, Crisan developed a record of strong rapport with both undergraduate and graduate students. He taught courses in electromechanical energy conversion, circuit analysis, power electronics and electric drives, advanced power system analysis, and power transmission and distribution with an unparalleled teaching style.
