Professors Featured in Consecutive Issues of Science
UH engineering researchers Jacinta Conrad and Jeff Rimer, both assistant professors in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, had papers featured in consecutive issues of Science earlier this month. Conrad's article reveals a newly discovered method that bacteria use to move, while Rimer's article (featured on the cover) outlines the effectiveness of tailored growth inhibitors in preventing the development of crystals that cause kidney stones.

Professor Taking Next Step with "Nobel" Material
The 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics went to the two scientists who first isolated graphene, one-atom-thick crystals of graphite. Qingkai Yu, assistant research professor of electrical and computer engineering, is finding success in his work to develop a method to mass-produce this revolutionary material. Read more

Researcher Working to Quantify Real-World Impact of Automobiles
Shankar Chellam, professor of civil and environmental engineering, is working to identify the unique chemical makeup, or “fingerprints,” of various sources of air pollution in the Houston area. He recently received a grant from the Texas Air Research Center to find the pollution fingerprint of gasoline-driven vehicles. Read more
