Diesel Center Researchers Earn EPA Grant to Retrofit School Buses

Using a $1 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Texas Diesel Testing and Research Center at the University of Houston will retrofit school buses with a system that attempts to diminish the negative impact their diesel emissions can have on the environment.

BP Annual Gift to Support Wind Lab, Students

UH Diesel Center Finishes Expansion Doubling Size, Capabilities

The Texas Diesel Testing and Research Center at the University of Houston recently finished an expansion doubling its size and increasing its means to research and test retrofit devices that reduce the amount of harmful pollutants emitted from heavy-duty diesel engine exhaust.

College Research Expenditures See Increase, Set Record

Research grant and contract expenditures by University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering faculty totaled more than $21.8 million in fiscal year 2009, the largest ever on record.

Up some 50 percent from the previous fiscal year’s total, primarily the federal government—the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy—supported the research.

Engineering Faculty Recognized for Teaching, Research

Dean Joseph Tedesco recognized UH Cullen College of Engineering faculty members for outstanding teaching and research during the 2008-2009 academic year at the college's Spring Faculty/Staff Meeting.

College Hosts Prospective Students During Pre-Engineering Day

About 175 students from five area high schools visited the University of Houston last Friday to learn more engineering as a college major.

The event, dubbed Pre-Engineering Day, was held in conjunction with National Engineers Week and organized by the Office of Undergraduate Recruitment and Retention. According to Julie Trenor, director of the office and an assistant professor with UH’s Cullen College of Engineering, the day is dedicated to student outreach and recruitment.
