Thomas T.C. Hsu (FOUNDING DIRECTOR)
Thomas T. C. Hsu is John and Rebecca Moores Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Cullen College of Engineering, University of Houston. Dr. Hsu served as chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering from 1980 to 1984, and the founding director of Thomas T. C. Hsu Structural Research Laboratory from 1982 to 2003. He obtained his M. S. and Ph. D. degrees from Cornell University, and is the author of more than a hundred technical publications and two books: "Unified Theory of Reinforced Concrete" and "Torsion of Reinforced Concrete." His national awards include: ACI's Arthur J. Boase Award for Reinforced Concrete Research in 2007, Anderson Award for Research in 1990 and Wason Medal for Materials Research in 1965, ASCE's Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize in 1974, and ASEE's Research Award in 1969. His UH awards include: Fluor-Daniel Faculty Excellence Award in 1998, Dukler Distinguished Engineering Faculty Award in 1998, Award of Excellence in Research and Scholarship in 1996, Senior Faculty Research Award in 1992, and Halliburton Outstanding Teacher in 1990. Y.L. Mo (DIRECTOR)
Y. L. Mo is a Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Cullen College of Engineering, University of Houston and the director of Thomas T. C. Hsu Structural Research Laboratory. He was formerly Professor of Civil Engineering at National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan and Head of Fundamental Research Division at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering, Taipei, Taiwan. He obtained his Ph. D. degree from the University of Hannover, Hannover, Germany, and is the author or co-author of one hundred refereed journal publications and three books: "Dynamic Behavior of Concrete Structures," "Earthquake Engineering Handbook," and "Vibration and Shock Handbook." His international awards include: Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow Award from Germany in 1995 and Distinguished Research Award from the National Science Council of Taiwan in 1999.
