In addition to research, SMSL also works with the surrounding community, including the Children's Museum of Houston, middle and high schools, as well as a community college and Historically Black Colleges and Universities to broaden the impact of our findings in research and education. Our outreach activities benefit more than 600,000 people per year.
We:
- Demonstrate smart materials experiments to visiting students & teachers
- Visit Local High Schools
- Partner with Children’s Museum of Houston
- Recruit Minority Students
- Motivate Girls to Study Engineering
- Train Professors from Undergraduate Universities
- Provide Training for Community College Faculty & Students
- Benefit Undergraduate Teaching Beyond UH
