Alumni, Professors to be Honored at Alumni Awards Gala
The University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering and the Engineering Alumni Association will honor seven college alumni and professors at its annual awards gala early next month. The event is scheduled for Friday, June 3, at the Four Season Hotel in downtown Houston. Read More

Lim Named New Chair of Industrial Engineering
The UH Cullen College of Engineering has named Gino Lim the new chair of its Department of Industrial Engineering, effective May 16. A Hari and Anjali Agrawal Faculty Fellow with the department, Lim earned his Ph.D. in industrial engineering in 2002 from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. At UH, Lim has been an investigator on grants totaling more than $8 million. Read More

Rifai Wins Grant to Study Galveston Bay Pollutants
UH Cullen College Professor of Environmental Engineering Hanadi Rifai has received a grant to expand her research into toxic chemicals in the Houston area’s major bodies of water. The grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is an extension of an award Rifai received last fall and brings the TCEQ’s support for this research to $500,000. Read More

Nearly 300 Walk in Spring Commencement Ceremony
The UH Cullen College of Engineering held its Spring 2011 Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 13, with nearly 300 candidates for engineering degrees walking across the stage. Barr, Dalton Set to Retire
Longtime Cullen College professor Betty Barr has retired after 40 years of service. Barr, an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was one of the first female faculty members hired by the college and won multiple awards during her career for excellence in teaching and advising. Also retiring is mechanical engineering professor Charles Dalton. Dalton earned his B.S. and M.S. from UH and spent 51 years as a university faculty member, a record for the Cullen College.
