UH Engineering Homecoming Activities: November 13
UH Cullen College of Engineering alumni and their families, faculty, staff, and students are invited to the 2005 Homecoming festivities on Sunday, November 13. The Engineering Alumni Association will host a tailgate party beginning at noon in Tailgate Alley on the west side of Robertson Stadium. In addition, the college will be sponsoring a free lunch at 12:30 p.m. in the Commons of Engineering Building 1. Kickoff for the UH vs. Southern Miss football game is at 4 p.m.

TREIA Brings Renewables Conference to University of Houston Hilton
The Texas Renewable Energy Industry Association (TREIA) will host the Texas Renewables '05 conference at the University of Houston Hilton Hotel, November 13-15. Policy developments and business activities in the renewable energy field will be the focus of the three-day event, which includes two receptions, a general assembly with scheduled breakout sessions and an industry exhibit. The conference is open to anyone interested in renewable energy. The Cullen College of Engineering is a conference sponsor.

 

NSF-Navy Civilian Service Fellowship Program Established
Three UH Cullen College of Engineering ECE graduate students are among the first to participate in the newly established NSF-Navy Civilian Service Fellowship Program. The program offers students a chance to research nanomagnetics in Naval Research and Development Centers over the summer, while pursuing their graduate education at the University of Houston during the academic year. Ariel Ruiz, Darren Smith, and Barry Craver will be involved with various research projects including the detection of biological agents, development of new techniques used to uncover land mines, and the progression of computer memory to withstand volatile environments. UH Engineering Students Showcase Research at University Research Day
Several Cullen College of Engineering undergraduate students presented posters of their research at The Honor College's First Annual Undergraduate Research Day. The event was designed to recognize the students involved in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program, as well as to showcase their research projects. Faculty mentors were also recognized for their role in the university-wide undergraduate research programs.

UH Engineering Students Receive Gas Processors Association Scholarships
University of Houston mechanical engineering seniors Deena Abou-Trabi, Jared Collins, and Sean Hale received scholarships from the Gas Processors Association at their regional meeting held earlier this month in Houston. Scholarships were given to student leaders interested in the gas processing industry from five universities, including Lamar University, Rice University, Texas A&M University, UH and The University of Texas at Austin, who are active in national engineering societies and maintain good academic standing.
