TWO HIGHWAY RESEARCH PROJECTS NOMINATED AS 'MOST INNOVATIVE' IN TEXAS
Richard Liu, associate professor of electrical engineering, has created new technology that will enable Texas Department of Transportation engineers to measure pavement thickness on interstate highways without drilling core samples. A second project by Liu enables state engineers to more accurately detect road surface texture. Both projects have been nominated for the 2003 Most Innovative Research Award, to be announced at the TXDoT Research Management Conference in June. Full story...

UH CIVIL ENGINEERING PROFESSOR HONORED BY ASCE
Michael W. O'Neill, UH Cullen Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering, will receive the Martin S. Kapp Award this November at the American Society of Civil Engineers' annual conference in Nashville. Full story...

2003 DISTINGUISHED ENGINEERING ALUMNI AWARDS
Jesse Gonzalez and Manmohan Kalsi will receive the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award at the 2003 Awards Dinner on Friday, June 6 at the Four Seasons Hotel. Siddika Demir will receive the young alumna award, Raymond Scheliga will receive the service award, and Osman Ghazzaly will receive the faculty award. The keynote speaker for the evening will be Astronaut and Distinguished Alumna Bonnie Dunbar. Full story...
