(April 15, 2002) Two robotics teams from UH will compete in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Region 5 Student Robotics Competition on April 20 at the NASA Hilton. The UH teams were chosen according to the results of a run-off race held last Friday in the Cullen College of Engineering.

(April 15, 2002) Chemical engineering student May Shek recently received the 2002 Wilbur L. and Judy L. Meier Outstanding Senior Award for her scholastic qualities and dedicated involvement in the UH Cullen College of Engineering.

(April 12, 2002) The UH Cullen College of Engineering's Office of Communications received the Achievement Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District IV for the college's website.

(April 11, 2002) A new high-speed, high-capacity computer memory technology could make rebooting your computer a thing of the past, and may allow PC users to transfer and download large files - such as digital movies - in a few seconds, rather than hours. UH researchers developed and patented the memory technology, and announced that Sharp Corp. has exclusively licensed the technology. Alex Ignatiev, one of the developers of the new technology, is director of the Texas Center for Superconductivity and Advanced Materials and a professor of physics, chemistry, and electrical and computer engineering at UH.

(April 8, 2002) Scholarships, smaller classes and summer camps for high-school girls are some of the ways the UH Cullen College of Engineering will help meet industry's demand for more electrical engineers and bring more women into the profession. A $326,511 grant to the UH Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) will be used to increase enrollment in the department - including attracting more women to the field - and improve retention rates.

(April 8, 2002) The UH Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering launched its redesigned website with the help of designers Alejandra Trivino and Harriet Yim in the Cullen College of Engineering's Office of Communications.

(April 8, 2002) The Program for the Mastery of Engineering Studies (PROMES) invites students entering the 8th-11th grade to an all-expense-paid two-week program about engineering July 14-26 at UH. Deadline: May 31.
