(March 25, 2002) After a promotion to associate professor of civil and environmental engineering and an appointment as editor of the Bioremediation journal, Hanadi Rifai can now add another honor to her list of recent achievements. The Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission has awarded UH engineering professor Rifai a $3.2 million grant to study dioxin in the Houston Ship Channel.

(March 22, 2002) Mary Schulz received the Dean's Meritorious Staff Service Award at the UH Cullen College of Engineering's third annual Staff Appreciation Day on March 18. The dean also recognized staff for years of
service.

(March 22, 2002) Ernest Henley, UH chemical engineering professor emeritus, has been selected to receive the 2002 Computers and Chemical Engineering Award from the American Society for Engineering Education.

(March 19, 2002) Astronaut Rex J. Walheim, a University of Houston industrial engineering alumnus, will make his first trip to space and participate in two spacewalks during NASA's Space Shuttle Atlantis mission to the International Space Station next month.
